Share the Season helped family of transplant recipient

By The Active Age | November 21, 2023

This year is the 23rd in which Share the Season serves families in our community, using donations to help fill the gaps left by other assistance programs. Since its inception, Share the Season has raised more than $4.4 million and helped over 4,200 families.

Here’s a story from last year’s Share the Season campaign:

Julie’s son had been at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City since October 2022 for a GI bleed. He ended up having a liver transplant. Julie had to take unpaid sick leave from work to be with her son during his hospital stay and of course wanted to be with him as he went through this necessary transplant.

When Julie applied for help from Share the Season in the middle of last November, she and her son were in Kansas City staying at the Ronald McDonald house. They remained there until the first part of December because her son was under close medical supervision and needed to be near his doctors.

Julie still had a home in Derby, where her two other children were staying and being cared for in Julie’s absence. With missing work, Julie needed assistance to get caught up on bills. Share the Season was able to assist with her December rent payment of $1300. Share the Season helped alleviate some of the financial burden from the unpaid sick leave so Julie could bring her son back home to Derby and have her rent paid.

Please consider sharing with your neighbors this season. Two giving options are available. Online donations may be made at ShareTheSeason.net or checks may be mailed to Share the Season, PO Box 485, Wichita, KS 67201-0485.
