World War II: A Family Remembers
Saturday, June 1, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Westlink branch
It has been 75 years since Allied Forces invaded Normandy on June 6, 1944. Through her family’s letters, Nancy Marsh Price, the author of Uncle Sam’s Most Reluctant G.I., will share her father’s personal experiences serving in the Army during World War II including his survival of the D-Day invasion.
Adventures in Writing Family History

Everyone’s family history has adventures, especially the farther back in time you go. Writing these stories lets you capture and retell captivating accounts that many people will enjoy. This presentation offers methods and tips to bring out the compelling stories of your ancestors. These will help you overcome the “I don’t know where to start” syndrome. The U.S. Census

Since early in its history, the U.S. has collected census data every ten years on those living in the U.S. and conducts additional surveys in the intervening years. How is this information used? What changes are in store for the 2020 U.S. Census? Learn more about all of the ways that the U.S. Census Bureau gathers and shares its information from Toni Pitchford, Data Dissemination Specialist for this agency. The event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters Wichita-Metro.
People, Pride and Promise: The Story of the Dockum Sit-In

In the summer of 1958, the Wichita NAACP Youth Council changed the nation when they led America’s first successful student-led lunch counter sit-in. Join Storytime Village for a special evening dedicated to the Dockum Sit-In participants featuring musical tributes, dance and words from Dockum Sit-In participant Dr. Galyn Vesey.
Believe It or Not! at
Exploration Place
A new national traveling exhibit called The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! presents some pretty unbelievable experiences at Exploration Place. Crawl through a life-size replica of the world’s largest prehistoric snake, measure up against the world’s tallest man, see sculptures so small they fit in the eye of a needle, learn the secrets of sword swallowing and much more. The exhibit is included with general admission and free to EP members.
