5K run and fun
The final leg of the Heartland Games – a 5K run – takes place Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Downtown Senior Center, 200 S. Walnut. The event actually starts at 8:30 a.m. with a one-mile family walk; participants are invited to bring their grandchildren and other family members. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m. A pancake breakfast will be served from 8:30-11 a.m. It’s free to participants and costs others $6 per person. Chisholm Trail round-up
Wichita will host the first Chisholm Trail Conference Sept. 12-14. Historians and other speakers from across the United States will present information about the great 19th century cattle drives that passed through here, while entertainers and re-enactors add to the experience.
“This includes the true history, the stories, the music, the challenges and the adventure of these cattle drovers that made the American Cowboy,” Dennis Katzenmeier, president of the International Chisholm Trail Association, said.

Singers sought

ICT Street Returns
For the third straight year, Wichita will shut down one of its busiest streets.
The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, along Douglas Avenue from Bluff Street in College Hill to Glenn Street in Delano. Restaurants, businesses and other organizations offer food, activities and more along the way.

Ulrich openings
The Ulrich Museum, located on the campus of Wichita State University, will launch its new fall exhibits with a free reception from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The new exhibits include:
Teachable Moments – Now in its 44th year, this biennial exhibit showcases work by faculty in the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.
Clay Currents: The Wichita National Ceramics Invitational – Twenty-four artists from around the United States are showcasing their work in this exhibition, now in its third reiteration. Solving for Accessibility – The second in a series of exhibitions in which the Ulrich worked with WSU scholars in other disciplines to make public the research taking part on campus. This one focuses on Guide Beacon, a wayfinding app for visually and mobility impaired people.
