Remember all those fall and winter clothes you didn’t wear last year? Make room for some new pieces for the season.

Looking at the trends it seems there is something for everyone. Dresses with sleeves are here for fall. Pick a subtle print or go wild with a colorful retro print. The ease of one-piece dressing is going to be one of the important options for fall.

Layering is the answer for that time of year when it’s cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon, and it’s certainly the answer to staying warm when the temperature dips.

To be ready for those temps, a wide range of cozy sweaters and unlined wrap coats come in everything from animal print to basic gray and black to fall colors and even a few brights.

Faux fur is back for another season. Leather and faux leather come in myriad colors in slacks, skirts, vests, jackets and coats.

Vests are still in, especially quilted ones carried over from the past several winter seasons. Vest styles come in a variety of lengths, from cropped to below the knee. Sweater versions are long and wrap; shorter ones zip. Wear with a long-sleeve T-shirt or the popular plaid flannel shirt this fall.

Hemlines are absolutely your choice. Maxi length, midi and knee-length, and if you care or dare, the mini-length is available.

If you want to play it safe, the straight leg pant is a good bet and available in a variety of fabrics and colors. If you’re a fan of the full-leg pant, you’ll be happy to know it’s back for another season as are the very narrow legs.

Don’t shy away from denim or jean styles because the stretch fabric and the variety of colors make these a versatile wardrobe staple. And of course blue denim is an all-American classic. And note, a basic jean jacket is a must-have.

Other trends you’ll be seeing:

Rich fall colors, but also a few you don’t usually associate with the colder months, such as pink and lilac.

Knits. Some are hefty, but others are lighter weight and perfect to layer.

Pleats, especially knife pleats. A popular item for fall will be the pleated, mid-length skirt. Several designers presented box pleated, knee-length skirts.

Patchwork, reminiscent of the ’60s and ’70s, adds a little punch to a vest, coat, skirt or even a handbag.

Regardless of your plans for fall and winter, get a lift by adding some trendy pieces to your wardrobe.
