Fatal stabbing downtown investigated

Wichita police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the downtown area.

Just after 12:30 p.m., 911 dispatchers received multiple calls about a stabbing near Third and Topeka. Officers responded and found a 55-year-old man with a stab wound.

An officer provided immediate first aid before Sedgwick County EMS arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

During the initial investigation, officers learned about an earlier disturbance at another location. Detectives are working to determine if that incident is connected.

A person of interest has been arrested and is currently being interviewed.

Preliminary information indicates the stabbing stemmed from an altercation between the victim and the suspect.

This remains an active investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
