A 25-year-old Wichita man has been arrested on charges of fatally stabbing the mother of his children and attacking a second female victim.

About 2:17 p.m. Thursday, July 17, the homicide victim, Sinay Lopez, called 911 from the 6300 block of West Kellogg to report a disturbance. A language barrier made communication with dispatchers difficult. She then left that location and returned to the apartment, where the fatal stabbing occurred.

Around 2:34 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Par Lane apartment, in the 6800 block of Par Lane. They found a woman outside with injuries consistent with a stab or cut wound. She was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Inside the apartment, officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. They also found Lopez, 26, of Wichita, with stab wounds. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators learned Lopez and the suspect have young children who were present during the incident.

The second victim, a-25-year old woman from Wichita, who was friends with the deceased, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of kidnapping, and two counts of aggravated child endangerment.

The investigation continues.
