Lynda Anne Connell

The Active Age thanks the family of Lynda Anne Connell, who made a generous bequest to our organization in her honor.

Born Lynda Anne Igel, Connell grew up in Kansas and Oklahoma and graduated from Ottawa High School. She earned a teaching degree from McPherson College, where she met her husband, Harold. They married in 1959.

Connell taught elementary school in Buhler, Salina and the Wichita public schools before retiring as a teacher at Wichita Collegiate School.

She volunteered for many years with the Mid-West Kansas chapter of the American Red Cross’ Disaster Services, which took her to several states and territories of the United States. She and Harold also spent a year with the Church of the Brethren’s Volunteer Service program, teaching English and Spanish speaking preschoolers in Texas and then serving as a nurse’s aide in The Cedars, a retirement home in McPherson. She enjoyed reading and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita.

Connell died June 29 at Larksfield Place from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She is survived by husband; son, Todd (Lori); two granddaughters, two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
