Wichita police have arrested two suspects and continue to search for a third in connection with a fatal shooting in the 700 block of North Piatt.
According to a news release, on Sunday, Sept.7, at 3:53 pm., officers responded to reports of a shooting and found 62-year-old Terry Collins in the front yard of his home with a gunshot wound to the chest. Neighbors immediately began life-saving efforts until officers arrived. Sedgwick County EMS transported Collins to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators learned that Collins was involved in a confrontation with two male suspects and a female suspect before a gunshot was fired. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects flee the area.
Officers deployed drones for aerial support, used a police K-9 team to track evidence and suspects, and relied on Flock camera technology to assist with locating the suspects. WPD’s Community Response Team and Community Policing Officers also responded to help with the investigation.
