Meals on Wheels needs drivers
Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to homebound, isolated seniors. The program is experiencing low volunteer numbers because of the summer vacation season.
A program of Senior Services, Inc., Meals on Wheels delivers about 800 meals each day Monday through Friday.

Local Author’s Day returns
The Wichita Public Library’s Author Day will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, giving local writers a chance to meet readers, discuss their work and sell books to attendees.
The event is held at the Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. Second St.
Safe driving class offered
AARP Kansas will offer its Smart Driver Class on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Downtown Senior Center, 200 S. Walnut. The class starts at 10 a.m. and should be done by 4 p.m. The in-class course does not involve driving. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. People who complete the class receive a certificate, good for three years, that enables them to receive a discount from their insurance carrier. To register, call (316) 267-0197.
Get relief from heat
The city of Wichita is encouraging residents who need relief from high temperatures to visit libraries or community centers to take enjoy air conditioning, technology, drinking fountains and programs. Hours and locations of libraries can be found at wichitalibrary.org. Participating community centers include Atwater, 2755 E. 19th St.; Colvin, 2820 S. Roosevelt St.; Evergreen, 2601 N. Arkansas; and Brewer, 1329 E. 16th St.
Where the Hell is Wichita? opens at WAM
A photographer who’s shown his black-and-white shots of Wichita around Europe has brought them to the Wichita Art Museum for the first time.
David Hornback came up with the idea for Where the Hell is Wichita? after being asked that question in a Berlin bar in 2000. The exhibit features photos that Hornback took at East High in the late 1970s, including the untitled photo of a classroom scene above. Hornback found the negatives in his childhood College Hill home during a family visit. The exhibit, which runs at WAM through Dec. 12, has been shown in Germany, Italy and Spain.
