Wichita Police are investigating a shooting that injured four people during a large party late Saturday night in east Wichita.

According to a news release:

At approximately 11:38 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 8800 block of E. Denker Circle.

When officers arrived, they encountered a chaotic scene involving a large social gathering at a private residence in the neighborhood. Officers located two men ages 20 and 21 years-old suffering from gunshot wounds in front of a home in the 8800 block of E. Denker Circle. Officers immediately began providing medical aid until Sedgwick County EMS arrived and transported both victims to an area hospital.

Investigators later learned two additional victims had already been transported to the hospital by private vehicle. Those victims included a 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

One male victim remains in stable but critical condition. The remaining victims are listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing to determine suspects and or vehicles that were involved in this incident.

Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan released the following statement:

“Our concern is with the victims and their families as another neighborhood is left traumatized by gun violence.

Let me be clear — we will use every available resource to identify the individuals responsible for this reckless act of violence and bring them to justice.

We are also investigating the circumstances surrounding this large party, including teenagers and young adults.

This cannot be solved by police alone. Parents, community members and law enforcement must work together to prevent violence before it happens. Prevention is the key, and that includes young people making the decision not to pick up a gun.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
