A detective assigned to the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has been charged with three felonies.

According to a news release, in December 2024, the Wichita Police Department was requested to investigate the conduct of a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to that unit.

Investigators from the WPD’s Advanced Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) carried out the investigation.

As a result, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office charged Detective Shawn McMahon with two counts of Making a False Writing and one count of Interference with Law Enforcement. All of these charges are felonies.

The Wichita Police Department did not provide any more information about the case.
