A new texting scam falsely informing people that they have unpaid traffic fines is making the rounds in Kansas.
According to a news release from the Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles:
“We’ve recently been alerted to a new text scam in which fraudsters impersonate the Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles (DOV). These messages falsely claim that the recipient owes unpaid traffic fines, aiming to steal personal and financial information.
Please note: The DOV DOES NOT collect unpaid traffic fines and will NEVER send unsolicited text messages regarding fines, toll fees, or other payments.”
