Here’s how to avoid Century II’s new higher parking rates

A new, more expensive parking system starts today (Monday, March 13) for many spaces around Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center and the former Central Library. Visitors will now pay through their phone for parking spaces east of the venue and south of the former library that were formerly metered spots.

The cost will be $5 for everyday parking, while the cost of event parking will fluctuate depending on the event. Previously, the cost was 25 cents for two hours.

ASM Global, the company that runs Century II, announced that it was partnering with ParkMobile to implement the system. Chris Whitney, Century II’s general manager, said in a news release that the change would allow visitors to parking “in a more seamless and efficient manner.”

On Friday, one of Century II’s tenants, the Wichita Symphony, said in it a news release that it understands “the frustration this charge may bring to you.”

The symphony release then listed these alternative parking options downtown:

  • Market & William Garage: $1.00 per half hour and a maximum cost of $6.00/day.
  • Hyatt Garage: Complimentary self-parking when you dine at Harvest Kitchen|Bar or $2/hour.
  • WaterWalk Lot: Free parking across from the Hyatt at the corner of Waterman and Water.
  • Garvey Garage: Just North of Century II on First Street, this garage has free parking after 5:00 p.m. and on the weekends.
  • Royal Valet: $20 curbside valet parking at the Concert Hall entrance will continue to be available through the remainder of the WSO season.
  • Douglas street parking: Free with no time limit after 5:00 p.m. and on the weekends.

There is also short-term 15-minute parking directly in front of the Century II Box Office, for visitors buying tickets there.
