Wichita police arrested a 23-year-old man after the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Mario Gonzalez outside a North Broadway liquor store Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the liquor store at 2:11 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, and found three men with gunshot wounds. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect and another 46-year-old man were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators learned that a disturbance in the parking lot led to gunfire.

A retired Wichita police lieutenant saw a vehicle flee the scene and followed it. Officers stopped the car, driven by a woman, near the 800 block of North Main Street. A 17-year-old male passenger, identified as an associate of Gonzalez, had a gunshot wound to the hand and was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. Investigators believe he was shot at the exact location as the other three men.

This investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to investigate the sequence of events and the individuals involved.
