The Wichita Police Department arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of 59-year-old Stevie Lee Young.
According to a new release, on Sunday, June 14, at 11:44 a.m., Wichita police were dispatched to a shooting with injuries call in the 400 block of North Market Street.
When officers arrived, they found Young inside his car, suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS began lifesaving measures and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition, but he was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.
Wichita police canvassed the downtown area and spoke with businesses and individuals who may have seen the shooting. Investigators were able to identify a suspect and determined the shooting took place in the 300 block of North Topeka Avenue.
Officers located and arrested a 56-year-old male suspect in the 2100 block of North Wellington Place.
He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for first-degree murder. This case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
