Old Cowtown to host old timey Independence Day event Saturday

Old Cowtown Museum hosts its annual Independence Day event from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5. According to a news release, “Guests can celebrate Independence Day like they would have in the old west.”

The museum grounds and historic buildings will be festooned with patriotic flags and bunting. Entertainment includes performances by Daisy Longstem’s Saloon Girls, mini-melodrama skits by the Empire House Players and an old-time medicine show. The Cowtown Vintage Base Ball Club will play exhibition matches at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. according to 1860s-1870s rules.

Guests can watch the churchgoers’ Temperance March on the saloon and the ensuing gunfight, participate in traditional summer games like horseshoes and sack races, enjoy wagon rides, and more. At noon, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Vendors include the Cowtown Crafters and MOAB BBQ. Old Cowtown is located at 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

No advanced tickets needed. Admission will be processed at the door.
