Public invited to tour Wichita schools, ask questions about proposed bond issue

By The Active Age | February 5, 2025

The Wichita Public Schools have scheduled a series of open houses to promote approval of a $450 million bond issue in a Feb. 25 special election.
The bond issue, if approved, would keep the district’s mill levy at the same rate it is now. Otherwise, that levy would decrease in 2029.
According to news reports, the bond plan calls for building five new elementary schools and two middle schools. It would also build a new early childhood center, convert two elementary schools to K-8 schools, add a career center focused on construction trades, and add athletic fields to Northeast Magnet High School.
The open houses will be held from 5-7 p.m. at these locations:
February 10
• Isley Elementary – 5256 N Woodlawn Blvd., Bel Aire
• L’Ouverture Elementary – 1539 N Ohio Ave.
February 11
• Pleasant Valley Elementary – 2000 West 29th St. N.
• Truesdell Middle School – 2464 S Glenn Ave.
February 12
• Wilbur Middle School – 340 N Tyler Rd.
• Woodland Elementary – 1705 Salina Ave.
February 13
• Chisholm Trail Elementary – 6015 Independence St., Park City
• OK Elementary – 1607 N West St.
