Real-life couples star in ‘Almost, Maine’

The Plymouth Fine Arts Series presents the play “Almost, Maine” by John Cariani, Feb. 10 and 11 at 7pm. Light appetizers will be served at the top of the show. There will be a dessert auction during intermission at the Saturday performance with proceeds in support of the Plymouth Fine Arts Series.
The play premiered in 2004 and has since become one of the most popular plays in the United States with nearly 100 professional productions and over 5000 community, university, and high school productions.
The synopsis from the publisher states: “Almost, Maine [is] a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. One cold, clear, winter night, the residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways.”
The cast is made up of Plymouth members and friends. Most scene partners are couples in real life. Plymouth’s Associate Minister Karen L Robu will direct and, along with her husband Tim Robu, will also perform in the show. They regularly appear on stage for Music Theatre Wichita. Other performers are Jeanne Thompson and Jim Giles, Steve and Sally Kimball, Abby Arthur and Tom Safley, John and Andrea Fulcher, and Lindsay and Chris Miller.
Tickets are $20 general admission. They are available at the door or by calling the church office, 316-684-0221. Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted.
