The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced that Michael Angel Gonzalez was sentenced to 34 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections following a sentencing hearing this afternoon for his role in the significant vandalism and criminal desecration at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
The sentence was imposed by District Court Judge Tyler Roush at the Sedgwick County Courthouse.
Gonzalez previously pleaded guilty as charged to:
• One count of Burglary (Severity Level 7 Nonperson Felony)
• One count of Criminal Desecration (Severity Level 7 Nonperson Felony)
• One count of Theft (Class A Nonperson Misdemeanor)
• One count of Criminal Damage to Property (Class B Nonperson Misdemeanor)
The charges stem from an incident on March 15, 2025, where Gonzalez committed an act of vandalism that resulted in substantial damage to the church property, including the destruction of a statue of St. Patrick and other significant religious artifacts.
The sentencing marks the culmination of the prosecution phase of the case, ensuring accountability and justice for the harm caused to the historic church and its congregation.
