Wichita library launches summer reading program

If you’ve got a grandchild looking for something to do, the Wichita Public Library’s summer reading program returns from May 23-August 1, 2024. Toddlers, kids, teens and adults are invited to read books, participate in programs and activities and win prizes all summer long.

Pre-registration begins online on Monday, May 6. The summer reading program kicks off on Thursday, March 23. At that time, participants can come to a library location to pick up their supplies. Aside from the traditional reading program, there is a schedule of programs and activities for kids and teens available online at wichitalibrary.org/summerreading. Included is a series of guest performers for families to enjoy:

  • Little Miss Ann, Wednesday, June 12, 10:30 a.m., Advanced Learning Library; 1 p.m., Linwood Elementary School
  • The Uncle Devin Show, Tuesday, June 18, 10:30 a.m., Advanced Learning Library; 1 p.m., Linwood Elementary School
  • Didgeridoo Down Under, Monday, June 24, 2:30 p.m., Alford BranchTuesday, June 25, 6:30 p.m., Evergreen Branch
  • Ms. Niki’s Music Class, Thursday, June 27, 2 p.m., Angelou Branch; 6:30 p.m., Rockwell Branch
  • Curious Circus, Tuesday, July 9, 10:30 a.m., Advanced Learning Library; 2 p.m., Evergreen Branch
  • Bridge Building with STEMusic, Monday, July 22, 2 p.m., Walters Branch
  • 123 Andres, Friday, July 26, 4 p.m., Evergreen BranchSaturday, July 27, 10:30 a.m., Alford Branch

Several branch locations will be undergoing remodels this summer. Please visit wichitalibrary.org for updates. Programming at several branch locations may be minimal.
