Wichita workers can’t blame traffic jams for being late to work. The city’s average commute time is the second shortest of U.S. metro areas, higher only than Tulsa, according to a new analysis.
Nationally, the average commute rose from 26.4 minutes in 2022 to 26.8 minutes in 2023. Wichita’s average commute increased by 0.8 minutes during that period.
The new analysis was done by Yardi Kube, a software company, and mirrors many previous studies.
According to a news release,
• Wichita commuters saved 31.3 hours annually compared to the national average, assuming 250 workdays
• Wichita’s remote — that is, non-commuting — workforce rose 127% between 2019 and 2023, from roughly 5,800 to over 13,300 workers
